Outdoor Laundry Shed No. 2
Alongside taking on clients and tackling creative projects, I’ve been running an Airbnb and renovating a pair of 100 year old Spanish Bungalows (that needed a TON of TLC!). When we bought the properties, the washer/dryer were stacked in the already tiny and cramped kitchen…that had to go. Airbnb guest typically don’t need access to laundry, so the bungalow has been sans washer/dryer for a few years.
There will be a FT tenant moving in, so we decided to add a washer and dryer shed.
Outdoor laundry sheds are very common in Southern California particularly in older homes in and around Los Angeles and San Diego Counties. The weather is mild and it barely rains, so having the units outside are never really a problem. The other bungalow has an outdoor laundry shed too. I’ll share that update later.
To get this one ready to roll we started with our Plumber. He worked fast and ran the proper hot/ cold water lines, waste line and a gas line underground. Once the dirt was put back, the concrete slab was prepped and poured.
I toyed with painting the exterior, but eventually went with a dark Onyx color. It hides blemishes, won’t show dirt and just looked mighty and bold. This bungalow will eventually get a fresh coat of paint which should help it blend in better in the future, but until then, this’ll do.
I think it turned out great. It’s functional, sturdy and does the job. This upgrade will give our tenants a clean/dry place to do laundry and will now allow us to compete with the rest of the rental homes on the market with washers/dryers.
This style of shed works great for rental units, small commercial spaces and older homes.
The inside of the shed is painted Juniper Berry x Glidden.
